Snapshots
My thoughts fill with you
Snippets of shuttersped snapshots
Syllogies in silhouette and
Succulent self seductions
Surrendered by candle light
Or is it you
Are you drumming softly
By the mirror, incense rising
Chanting sylvan love songs
I once whispered in your ear
The air is very clear in the darkness
Ragged trees said good bye to leaves
And hello to the sharpness of shadows
Cast full by the moon on winter snow
Long has that point lain in earth
As gleam is lost, no longer cut
Though blood makes yet ink
To cover canvas in crimson
Trip, I digress as I fall
Or is it flight, and a soaring
For eyes full of hair in the wind
To ride the clouds and then the mist
As we rise among wild flowers
And plunge from the sky
To lay gasping for air
Alive as no other leap
Demands
Yes, that drumming is very clear now
On the bed, by the mirror chanting
I can see your lips move softly
I am not helpless, but I wish that I was
So I light the lamp by my mirror
And the room takes a breath
Ears bent in the darkness
As you flicker behind me
In feathers and in lace
You writhe to the smoke
As a song from my quill
That you’ve now made your own
A song of shadows and of vapors
Flaming sighs and beaded sweat
Those drops untamed, still tingling
And swimming between breaths
To the sea
Where maelstrom awaits the faint of heart
And as I am drawn further in, I now know the words
Arms tight around you in the wheel house wailing
“ I love you, please be safe, come home soon”
I scream as the wind howls in harmony
The intoxication of your dance adding
Liquor to your murmurings and sighs
As we sail the edge of the world
Surging
And then it calms…
And I can breathe again
Your smile slowly fading
Though your eyes remain
My chest is my own again
But it’s contents are yours
I feel your hands in there
Lips bent low chanting
My thoughts fill with you
