Take from me this bit of bone
And greening, burst forth upon the land
With monochromes of leaves and of grasses
And of mosses to gather your dew
Find plenty and fruit from within
Uprooting from the garden
Gaggle your voices in skeins
And refrain, refrain, refrain….
Verdant and golden these phantoms
Of white pickets and of pink houses too
Clear eyed, the snake man evenly spoke
Though now choking on tears as he laughs
Salty, a droplet falls and then pauses
Showing an image contained and reversed
In carnal chorale, a steaming calliope plays as
Our lips part and we put the apple back
A little boy pulls a puppy in a wagon
As the scene begins to shimmer
His song separates from mine
And then slowly fades away
Lost to winds my body shakes
Gone are the eyes unseen that saw through me
The wings that bore me on, carried me
Lost to where I wanted to be

Cleverly written, cleverly disguised.
Eyes wet, I live with it all every day, T…

But not many are willing to put it out there even hidden the way it is. Familiar circles, different pains.

Thank you, Tanya…

There is something nostalgic and painful here is my interpretation….the past can never be changed and yet we still relive it over and over again. Beautiful piece e…as always.
You read clearly, Jen…
I tried to go to a happy place and wandered.
Some mistakes should remain unforgotten, daily.

I love the open places you’ve revealed……….. ~ Love, Bobbie
Our substance is mainly made up of open space, poet…
In this case a space YOU filled for me, with all that talk of drawing your green.

fortunate poet………I be…….. 🙂
I FEEL….
I know you do, Sis…
There is no one better than you when your mind goes to these places
It seems my very blood has the blues, Tim.

You alway write so beautifully Eric, and I feel like I’ve been where you were… (probably recently) but love your open-ness even though it is hidden.
Thank you, poet, sorry it took so long to get back.
Suddenly I am there again…

You aren’t the only one… I am S l o w these days… Oh shoot, I forgot the “s” on always. Glad you are here again 😀
I read it over and over… sad, beautiful. Our best ‘mistakes’ are those we remember every day… maybe several times a day. 🙂 Stay well.
For ever and ever, MJ…
We can only hope to wash our sins with our tears.
Sad , gripping…
Thank you for stopping by and commenting!

though there is much sadness in this, and regret, to me it reads not without hope as well. thanks for sharing, e.
There is always hope, Joanna, be it just the dawn…

“…and we put the apple back.” Will there be change if we did? Or a new pain to take its place?

You conjure magic here.
Yes, my brother, I set sail for magic. Hit some familiar rocks, but no less on that shore…

Thank you for the good music. The first song gave strength to the poem. Hard sometimes to understand how we landed in the places we are. A powerful poem and song leading the reader into thoughts of things lost. Thank you for the excellent poem.
Such depth in this poem!
Sadness and happiness intertwined, as it is for all of us traveling through this world.
I always enjoy my time on this blog,
but I could not leave without telling you how
much Refrain touched my soul.
Fine, evocative writing!
